Battle Aces Cover Gallery

Although a majority of our stories come from the pages of Dare-Devil Aces, some of the characters also appeared in sister magazines Battle Aces and Battle Birds. Like Dare-Devil Aces, the covers of Battle Aces were also not specific to any story within, although starting with the June 1931 issue, Frederick Blakeslee started providing the stories behind his cover paintings––representing real scenes from the war and featuring the planes readers wanted to see. To view the cover image larger, click on the thumbnail image, If the story behind the cover has been posted, click the highlited month name below the thumbnail to read the story behind that cover.

Frederick Blakeslee provided the cover art for all but four issues of Battle Aces––October 1930 by Don Hewitt, November 1930 and January 1931 by Rudolph Belarski, and February 1931 by Sidney Risenberg. The December 1930 issue is Blakeslee’s first aviation cover for Popular Publication––he would go on to provide covers for Popular’s aviation magazines until they folded.
